Abstract

One of the characteristic features of the 18th century is a change in the perception of cultural and social postulates in the light of the Enlightenment, which began to manifest itself in our territory in the Theresian period. Political decisions and new regulations brought changes in individual strata of society, which necessarily manifested itself in the field of media – the press. The reform of censorship, the Ratio educationis regulation, and other subsequent Josephine reforms affected the nature of the printers and the structure of published literature. Naturally, the book graphics and illustrations themselves as well as the typography of the book block developed under the influence of the surrounding and remote major printing centres. The article deals with the mapping of graphics in the printing centres operating in our country (with a focus on Bratislava and Trnava) in the period in question, noting the topic of religious realities used in the illustration of mainly theological works from Trnava and Bratislava workshops.
