Abstract
In the 17th – 18th century, the eparchy of Mukachevo was the administrative centre of
Greek Catholics in north-eastern Hungary. During the monitored period (in this environment)
multiple printed and hand-written literary works were created, serving the
internal needs of the local church and its communities. These works include catechisms
and dictionaries meant to assist the spiritual and educational literacy of the parishioners.
A multitude of manuscripts emerged – transcripts of poetry, medical procedures but also
spiritual literature aimed at exegesis from the Holy Scriptures. These scientific works reflect
the spiritual and scientific literacy of people working in the structure of the given
church, such as presbyterians, monks, and even professors in the seminaries. The books
in the archive fund represent unique content that expresses the flexibility of reaction to
the trends of the given time period. This work aims to present the chosen printed works
and manuscripts from the fund of the Mukachevo along with the unique prints created in
the 17th – 18th century under his patronage. In this report, we will also include the list
of books the aforementioned fund contains and which we plan to specifically categorize
according to the fields they cover.
