Abstract

The web Knihověda.cz, launched in 2020, is a new portal of the history of the Czech
book culture up to 1800. It is a basic platform for research into Czech book culture and
it comprises a database, an encyclopaedia and a map. The portal virtually merges several
databases: 1) two databases of the Czech national retrospective bibliography of printed
books with the 2) database of Bohemical manuscripts, and, 3) two databases of modern
literature. Thus, the portal contains data on both printed and manuscript book production
in Bohemia and Moravia up to 1800. Other components of the portal are the online
Encyclopaedia of the Book in the Czech Middle Ages in the Early Modern Period and the
interactive Map of printed production in Bohemia and Moravia, which not only displays
the data on printed book production up to 1800, but also offers an interactive research
tool.
