Ján Gros (1759 – 1839) worked in 1802 – 1838 as a professor at the Lutheran Lyceum in Bratislava. He taught philosophy, history and rhetoric. He had a great influence on the education of many important and outstanding people who later played a key role in our national history. The paper focuses on the portrait of Professor Gros in the published works of his students (occasional poems by Michal Godra and Timotej B. Nosák) and colleagues (Andrej Daniel Michnai et al.), with an emphasis on the analysis of his pedagogical activities and overall educational work and influence.
